Installation 001.1 Ghosts of Canvas
This collection began with a sense of respect -for materials, memory, and the stories embedded in what we discard. I approached the fabrics as artifacts, carrying an unseen weight beyond their surface and hand feel. The concept wasn’t to start from scratch, but to transform what already existed. An effort to rework history into something new, personal, and alive.
Ghosts of Canvas is about re-contextualizing what we inherit. Function becomes emotion, and uniform turns to intimacy. In reconstructing the 1943 military tent, I wanted to explore the memory that garments hold, while also becoming vessels for something new. This collection holds tension between structure and softness, past and present, protection and vulnerability. It’s a valuable reminder that materials outlive their original purpose — and through design, they can speak again.
Coat - Constructed from a 1943 WWII U.S. military tent. The pattern was carefully placed to retain and highlight original elements of the tent -including the rope closures, metal grommets, seam lines, printed stencils, and buttons. It features a kimono-inspired silhouette with subtle shoulder pads, long cuff-able sleeves, and a wrap-style, reversible, front closure using the tent’s original tie cord.
Trousers - Made from 100% recycled cotton canvas sourced from Ralph Lauren deadstock. Designed with a wide-legged fit, triple pleats at the front, and custom pleated patch pockets. The waistband is finished with custom belt loops, and a hand-sewn buttonhole installation, focusing on craftsmanship and construction.
